1987 Peugeot 309 GTI.jpg

Peugeot 309 (C28). 1985–93 (prod. n/a). 3- and 5-door saloon. F/F, 1118, 1294, 1442, 1592 cm³ (I4 OHV), 1124, 1360, 1580, 1905 cm³ petrol, 1769 cm³ diesel (I4 OHC), 1905 cm³ (I4 DOHC). Originally developed as Talbot Horizon replacement and to carry the Talbot Arizona moniker. With the demise of the Talbot brand, 309 wound up in the Peugeot range instead, replacing Talbot models and overlapped with 305. Reasonably comfortable, though the most notable models in the range were the GTI hot hatches, which were well developed and competitive. Lesser 309s were more forgettable, and the mid-decade styling lacked the panache of other Peugeots.

Manufacturing locations: Poissy, Île-de-France, France; Ryton, Coventry, England

Marque: Peugeot | Predecessors: Talbot Horizon, Talbot 1510 | Successor: Peugeot 306
