Panther Kallista.jpg

Panther Kallista. 1982–90, 1991–4 (prod. 646 to end of 1985; 73 in Korea). 2-door convertible. F/R, 1597, 2302 cm³ (4 cyl. OHC), 2792, 2933 cm³ (V6 OHV). Lima reborn under Y. C. Kim and re-engineered under Robert Jankel. Far more successful than Lima, with wider range of engines and Ford running gear. Wider and longer, though still with narrow cabin. Ford CVH engine at entry level, running to Köln V6s at top. Pinto 2·3 unit from 1985 for US exports, supplied by Ford Canada. Ssangyong takeover in 1987. Not profitable enough for Ssangyong’s tastes, and Panther Solo dominated the company’s resources by the end of the decade. Kallista was built briefly in Korea, 1991–4, still with the Panther brand.

Manufacturing locations: Byfleet, Surrey, England; Harlow, Essex, England; Pyeongtaek, Korea

Marque: Panther | Predecessor: Panther Lima | Successor: Ssangyong Kallista
