Opel Senator. 1977–82, 1983–4 (prod. over 129,644). 4-door saloon. F/R, 1979 cm³ (I4 CIH), 2490, 2784, 2969 cm³ (I6 OHC). Large, attractive Opel saloon, sold in UK as Vauxhall Royale and South Africa as Chevrolet Senator (till 1982). A step forward from the old Opel Diplomat. Some conversions to four-wheel drive in UK by Ferguson in 1981. Dynamically sound and competent, but never caught the British imagination versus the Ford Granada, and production numbers well below Mercedes-Benz W123 in Germany. Replaced by facelifted A2 in 1982, but South Africa built the A1 with the larger six-cylinder engine from 1983 to 1984, when the facelift arrived there.

Manufacturing locations: Rüsselsheim, Germany; Port Elizabeth, South Africa

Marque: Opel | Model: Opel Senator | Predecessors: Opel Diplomat B, Chevrolet Senator | Successor: Opel Senator A2
