Sixty mm longer wheelbase, improved double wishbone independent front suspension, and five-link axle at rear; dual-circuit brake system now on all models. Crumple zones and telescopic steering column introduced. Four-cylinder units improved. Six-cylinder cam-in-head engine replaced prewar unit. Ten millionth Opel made during Rekord C’s run—a Caravan estate model. Formed the basis of the Opel Commodore A (which eventually supplanted the Rekord six), Ranger A, Chevrolet Opala, and Opel Olímpico and Fiera in México (like the Opala, Rekords with Chevrolet engines).
