Opel Diplomat. 1969–77 (prod. 21,021). 4-door saloon, 4-door LWB saloon. F/R, 2784 cm³ (I6 CIH), 5354 cm³ (V8 OHV). The only model line in the KAD (Kapitän–Admiral–Diplomat) trio where the Chevrolet 327 in³ V8 was now available, though it could also be ordered with the CIH six. Pricey (DM21.556) but still cheaper than its chief rival at Mercedes-Benz. Well equipped but mid-Atlantic styling not to everyone’s tastes, and 1973 fuel crisis hurt sales of all big cars. Mid-term revision in 1972, with most notable exterior change the shift of the Opel badge into the grille. LWB from 1973; alloy wheels from 1976. Absorbed the Admiral range when that line ceased production in 1976.

Manufacturing location: Rüsselsheim, Hessen, Germany

Marque: Opel | Model: Opel Diplomat | Predecessors: Opel Diplomat A, Opel Admiral B | Successor: Opel Senator A1
