Oldsmobile Delta 88 (H-body). 1986–8 (prod. n/a). 4-door sedan, 2-door coupé. F/F, 3791 cm³ (V6 OHV). Downsized Delta 88, replacing the rear-wheel-drive B-body model. No V8 option, despite the name (traditionally 80 series, eight cylinders), and leaving the full-size models smaller than some of the intermediate Cutlasses. Not popular at the time, and very different from Ford Taurus Mk I, which made GM’s offerings appear old-hat. Coupé much smarter than boxy sedan. Available with different suspensions, from wallowy to tauter, and economy much improved from B-bodies. More driver feedback and control from rack-and-pinion steering. Quality was also above average, and front-wheel drive allowed for a roomy interior.
