Nissan March (K11). 1992–2007 (prod. n/a). 3-, 4- and 5-door sedan, 5-door wagon, 2-door cabriolet. F/F, F/A, M/R, 998, 1275, 1348, 1998 cm³ (I4 DOHC), 1527 cm³ diesel (I4 OHC). Rounded-off second-generation March, the first Japanese car to win the European Car of the Year award for 1992–3. Also won the Japanese COTY. Basic design meant to last long, with Nissan not planning to replace March till the 2000s. Tango retro-grilled model from 1996. Successful in the first half of its production cycle in Japan, with an update in 1997. Cabriolet from 1997, as well as retro-themed Bolero (another dance name), with round headlamps and traditional grille, later that year (through Autech, as were subsequent “official” modified Marches). Juke, a bicoloured March, also offered from 1997. UK-built models with Peugeot diesel from 1998. Rumba, another retro-themed model, this time apeing the Mini, from 1998. Box wagon from 1999. Polka, another specialist re-grilled March, from 2000. Four-door, three-box sedan made by Yulon of Taiwan, while Autech racing model, Mid11, featured mid-mounted two-litre engine from Primera. Japanese and UK production to 2003; Taiwanese production to 2007. Basis of numerous cars from Mitsuoka and Muji. Fairly standard supermini, with decent quality outside, and slightly cheaper materials inside on some models. Slightly harsh ride, with not that much legroom, despite Nissan’s aim to accommodate both Japanese and European markets. DOHC units regarded as good performers, though grip not the best and noticeable understeer outside the urban environment.
