What started off as a Nissan Bluebird (910)-based sporting counterpart to the Laurel turned into a bulbous, rounded luxury sedan with a V8 option, then a dull hardtop sedan in the Cedric mould. It wasn’t as though Leopard was a bad car in some of its incarnations, but the nameplate showed that Nissan’s obsession with chasing Toyota and losing sight of its model lines’ meanings hurt the company badly. Leopard’s two-decade lifespan also coincided with Nissan’s out-of-step styling moves. Leopard was never consistently defined in the range, which meant that it was finally deleted in 1999, a year shy of its 20th birthday.
