2019 Morgan Plus 4.jpg

Morgan Plus 4. 1950–69, 1985–2000, 2005–20 (prod. 4,584 for 1950–69 model). 2-door 2-seat roadster, 2-door 4-seat roadster, 2-door 2-seat convertible, 2-door 4-seat convertible. F/R, 1991, 2088, 2138 cm³ (I4 OHV), 1994, 1995, 1999 cm³ (I4 DOHC). Morgan adds four inches to the 4/4’s wheelbase, reinforcing the chassis, to take the extra power from a Standard Vanguard 2·1-litre engine developing 68 hp. Sloping grille from 1953. Triumph TR engines from 1953 with even more power, eventually supplanting the Standard-powered model. More potent Super Sports and Competition models in the 1960s. Original production to 1969, after the Plus 8 became Morgan’s flagship, though the nameplate returned in 1985 for an intermediate model slotting in between the base 4/4 and the Plus 8, using Fiat power for the first three years, before going back to British with a Rover unit from 1988 to 2000. A second revival took place in 2005, now using Ford power. Far better workmanship at the end, though by modern standards, an anachronism, with agricultural handling and ride. Nevertheless, Morgan retained its loyalists and the Plus 4’s lines were attractive throughout its long run.

Manufacturing location: Malvern, Worcestershire, England

Marque: Morgan | Successors: Morgan Plus 8 (1968–2004), Morgan Plus Four
