Founded in the late 1950s, Morattab began life as a retailer and assembler of Rover products, specifically the Land Rover. Due to sanctions in the wake of the 1979 Islamic Revolution, Morattab was forced to source its Land Rover vehicles from Santana of Spain for almost all of the 1980s. In 2001, Morattab added the Ssangyong Musso to its production lines. When Santana went bankrupt in 2011, Morattab brought the production lines to Iran, where the vehicles were produced in full. However, financial difficulties saw to production being halted in 2016.
