Monteverdi Safari.jpg

Monteverdi Safari. 1977–82 (prod. n/a). 3-door SUV. F/A, 5210, 5654, 5898, 7206 cm³ (V8 OHV). Another variation on the International Harvester Scout, this time with body by Fissore. The Safari was developed as Monteverdi adapted to the first fuel crisis of the 1970s, extending the brand. Taillights from Peugeot 504 Break; headlights from Fiat 125 (1967–81); tailgate and glazing from its rival, the Range Rover (1970–95). Much more luxurious on the inside than the Range Rover. However, the Safari was prone to rust due to the poor quality of its steel and improper corrosion protection. Possibly Monteverdi’s most successful model, though no one knows the quantity produced for sure, with estimates ranging from the hundreds to Peter Monteverdi’s own claim of 3,000. The truth is likely to be somewhere in between.

Manufacturing location: Savigliano, Piemonte, Italy

Marque: Monteverdi

q.v. Monteverdi Sahara
