OHC), 1597, 1836 cm³ (4 cyl. DOHC). Mitsubishi set its own design direction with third-generation Mirage, apeing the larger Galant. Designed by Masaru Furukawa and engineered by Yasukichi Akamatsu. Three-door hatchback the basic model, complemented by four-door (from January 1988) that was identical to Lancer. Considered stylish in its day, distinct from jelly-mould looks of similar cars. Few changes through run. Good ride and performance, especially from hot-hatch DOHC models.
