Mitsubishi Galant Σ (A120/A121). 1976–80 (prod. n/a). 4-door sedan, 5-door wagon. F/R, 1597, 1850, 1995 cm³ (I4 OHC). Cleaner, more European styling this time, credited to Aldo Sessano. Aerodynamics and fuel efficiency emphasized, with cut-off tail and subtle front air dam. Best selling car in Mitsubishi’s history, peaking at 100,000 units in its most successful year, and considered a step ahead of rival Toyotas and Nissans. Refined and economical Astron Silent Shaft engines, and good handling. Wagon—van in the domestic market—from 1977. Also built in Australia as Chrysler Sigma (GE) (and later GH), while wagon made it to the US as Dodge Colt, complementing smaller Lancers with the same name. Facelift with square headlamps for Eterna model from 1978, adopted by all models later that year. Larger bumpers from October 1978.
