Mercury Sable (D258). 2008–9 (prod. n/a). 4-door sedan. F/F, F/A, 3496 cm³ (V6 DOHC). Twin to Ford Taurus Mk V, essentially a renamed Mercury Montego (2005–7), with high seating position and all-wheel-drive option. Renamed after Alan Mulally took over as Ford CEO and realized Mercury had wasted the goodwill it had built with the Sable nameplate. Roomy and safe, with decent ride—the same qualities as its Ford counterpart. However, handling was uninspired and the V6 not the most refined. Cancelled after the 2009 model year, with Sable not getting the Taurus’s rebody for 2010.

Manufacturing location: Chicago, Illinois, USA

Marque: Mercury | Model: Mercury Sable | Predecessors: Mercury Sable (2000–5), Mercury Montego (2005–7)
