Mercury Mountaineer (UN105). 1997–2001 (prod. n/a). 5-door SUV. F/R, F/A, 3996 cm³ (V6 OHC), 4942 cm³ (V8 OHV). Upscale twin to the Ford Explorer (UN105) with more standard equipment, but only the five-litre V8 under the hood at launch. Good acceleration, but poor fuel economy and ride. Decent room for the segment, and anti-lock brakes and dual airbags were standard. V6 from 1998.
