Mazda Luce Legato/Mazda Luce (LA4). 1977–88 (prod. n/a). 4-door sedan, 4-door hardtop sedan, 5-door wagon. F/R, 1146 cm³ (Wankel 2 × 573 cm³), 1308 cm³ (Wankel 2 × 654 cm³), 1769, 1970 cm³ petrol, 1970 cm³ LPG (I4 OHC), 2209 cm³ diesel (I4 OHV). Mazda nudges the Luce upmarket, still influenced by US design trends, including vertically stacked headlights. Sedan and hardtop initially, wagon (and van) added later. Legato tag dropped in 1978, and the models became simply Luce. New grille and horizontal, wrap-around headlights in 1979. Sedans made to October 1981; wagon continued to the end of the run. Exported as 929 and RX-9.
