Mazda Grand Familia/Kia Brisa II/Kia K303. 1971–81 (prod. n/a). 4-door sedan, 5-door wagon, 2-door coupé. F/R, 985, 1272, 1490, 1586 cm³ (I4 OHC). Originally conceived as a replacement for the Mazda Familia Presto. However, with that model still selling well, Mazda opted to field the Grand Familia against the Mitsubishi Colt Galant and the Toyota Carina (A10). Length at 3,995 mm, to save on freight costs, while body was 1,595 mm. Body shared with Mazda Savanna (1973–7). Base engine shared with Presto, which was the only unit on offer at launch; 1972 saw Grand Familia S with 1·5. Upgraded to 1·6 in 1973, with five-speed gearbox; AP (anti-pollution) models added. Square headlights from 1975, as part of mid-term changes. Discontinued in Japan in 1978. Kia of Korea built its Brisa II model under licence from 1973, with the addition of a 1·0-litre engine, updated in 1978 to the K-303, which lasted till 1981. Exported as Mazda 808 or 818, and not directly replaced till a three-box sedan appeared as part of the Mazda Familia (BD) series.
