Mazda Demio (DW). 1996–2002 (prod. 200,000 to May 1998). 5-door sedan. F/F, 1324, 1498 cm³ (I4 OHC). Out with the curves of the Revue, and in with boxiness, creating a surprise hit for Mazda. Same platform as Revue, with carryover engines (with minor improvements). Tall wagon, created to take advantage of the minivan boom in Japan, also sold as Ford Festiva Mini Wagon. Regarded as the model that helped Mazda come back from the brink. Mid-term changes in 1998, new corporate grille and further changes in December 1999.
