2014 Mazda Demio.jpg

Mazda Demio/Mazda 2 (DJ3FS/DJ3AS/DJ5FS/DJ5AS). 2014 to date (prod. n/a). 4- and 5-door sedan. F/F, F/A, 1298, 1496 cm³ petrol, 1497 cm³ diesel (I4 DOHC). Demio gets kodo design theme and fuel-saving, high-compression Skyactiv engines. Far more refined, with premium-look interior. More advanced connectivity for infotainment system. More rigid bodies, while four-wheel-drive models lighter than predecessors for better fuel economy. Blind spot monitoring and other active safety features. Despite 138 mm leap in length, and 15 mm in height, there is less cargo space than DE, with 250 ℓ dropping to 220 ℓ. Wheelbase up 80 mm. Adaptive steering helped with feel, though suspension on home-market models tuned more to comfort compared with outgoing model. Hatchback launched first; four-door from 2015. Four-door twinned with Scion iA, later becoming the Toyota Yaris in the US. From the 2020 model year, the five-door hatchback also became the Toyota Yaris in the US. With the 2019 revisions, Mazda abandoned the Demio name on the home market, and renamed it the 2, following export markets.
