Mazda Demio/Mazda 2 (DE). 2007–14 (prod. n/a, incl. 100 EV). 3-, 4- and 5-door sedan. F/F, 1349, 1498 cm³ petrol, 1399, 1560 cm³ diesel (I4 DOHC), 20 kWh electric. Out with DY’s boxy looks, in with sporting, more expressive styling. DE Demio now on Ford Fiesta Mk VII platform, but no larger than its predecessor externally. Five-door initially, three-door from 2008. Four-door booted sedan for Chinese market, shown 2007. Smaller diesel lacking in power; larger one, shared with Fiesta, far better. Very good fuel economy and known for being good to drive. Lease of 100 EVs in Japan in 2012. Japanese production to 2014; Chinese production of three-box sedan continued briefly thereafter.
