Mazda Cosmo AP (CD). 1975–81 (prod. n/a). 2-door coupé, 2-door fastback coupé. F/R, 1769, 1970 cm³ (I4 OHC), 2 × 573 cm³, 2 × 654 cm³ Wankel. Mid-Pacific styling for coupé reviving Cosmo nameplate, with two body styles: a fastback coupé available from launch, and Cosmo L with a formal roofline and opera window (essentially a personal–luxury car, targeting the likes of the posher Ford Mustang II models) and a vinyl roof, offered from 1977. AP referred to anti-pollution measures, and hinted at the car’s US export ambitions. Not that popular outside Japan. Rotary-engined models sold as Mazda RX-5 for export, but piston ones had the Mazda 121 nameplate. Mid-term changes in 1979.

Manufacturing location: Japan

Marque: Mazda | Model: Mazda Cosmo | Predecessor: Mazda Cosmo (L10) | Successor: Mazda Cosmo (HB)
