Mazda Capella (GC). 1982–6 (prod. unknown). 4- and 5-door sedan, 2-door coupé. F/F, 1587, 1789, 1998 cm³ petrol, 1789 cm³ LPG, 1998 cm³ diesel (4 cyl. OHC). Capella goes front-drive, with smart, better resolved styling, labelled ‘European’ by some media at the time. Car of the Year in Japan on launch. Twinned with Ford Telstar (GC), which Hiroshima also developed, though coupé unique to Capella range. Two noses for four-door sedan, depending on the size of the engine and trim. Much more refined than GB, good performance, and more appealing internationally. Turbo two-litre added 1983. Mid-term changes 1985. Exported again as Mazda 626.

Manufacturing locations: Hiroshima, Japan; Hofu, Japan

Marque: Mazda | Model: Mazda Capella | Predecessor: Mazda Capella (GB) | Successor: Mazda Capella (GD)
