Mazda Étude. 1987–9 (prod. under 10,000 approx.). 3-door coupé. F/F, 1498 cm³ (4 cyl. OHC), 1597 cm³ (4 cyl. DOHC). Familia in smarter clothes, with blacked-out C-pillars that were the fashion at the time in Japan (q.v. Toyota Celica (T160)). Not a strong seller initially due to two colours being available; when sales failed to materialize, Mazda expanded the colour palette and added the 1·5 in 1988. Not that sporting, and more a compact interpretation of a “personal–luxury” car.

Manufacturing location: Japan

Marque: Mazda | Successors: Mazda Familia (BG), Eunos 100
