2012 MG 5.jpg

MG 5. 2012–16 (prod. n/a). 5-door saloon. F/F, 1498 cm³ (I4 DOHC). Upright-looking MG, based around Roewe 350, with normally aspirated and turbocharged 1·5 VVT units, designed to challenge the likes of Volkswagen Golf VI and Toyota Auris (E150). MG 5 name appeared once on a show car based on the MG ZS Mk II. Keenly priced on launch at RMB90,000. Chinese media liked the swoopy frontal design at launch. Vague steering, not that refined. Turbo model, launched second half of 2012, mated to DCT dual-clutch transmission. Not a strong seller.

Manufacturing location: Pukou, Nanjing, China

Marque: MG | Predecessor: MG ZS Mk II | Successor: MG GT
