Lotus Elite (Type 75).jpg

Lotus Élite (Type 75). 1974–80 (prod. 2,398). 3-door coupé. F/R, 1973 cm³ (I4 DOHC). Wedge-shaped coupé from Lotus, reviving 1950s’ name. Much larger and heavier (2,240 lb), but exceptional handling, with chassis that could probably cope with more power. Bodyshell in GRP. Engine (developing 155 bhp) had been used in an earlier form in Jensen–Healey. Very pricey, and most expensive car launched by Lotus at that point, with negative impact on sales. Styling looked up-to-the-minute in the mid-1970s, but dated quickly afterwards.

Manufacturing location: Hethel, Norfolk, England

Marque: Lotus | Model: Lotus Élite | Successor: Lotus Élite (Type 83)
