Lotus Elise (RH). 1996 to date (prod. n/a). 2-door roadster. M/R, 1598, 1796, 1798 cm³ (I4 DOHC). Long-lived, light (originally 725 kg) open sports car with excellent handling and decent power-to-weight ratio, taking the Hethel car maker back to its roots. Began life while Lotus was still under Bugatti ownership and named after chairman Romano Artioli’s granddaughter, and continued under Proton. Rover K-series at the start, later replaced with Toyota units. Revised to series 2 in 2000 to meet new European safety regulations, with the project partially funded by GM (spawning the Opel Speedster and Vauxhall VX220). The Tesla Roadster later shared the Elise platform.
