1980 Lincoln Continental Town Car.jpg

Lincoln Continental. 1980 (prod. 70,000 approx. incl. Mark VI). 4-door sedan, 2-door coupé. F/R, 4942, 5750 cm³ (V8 OHV). Downsized at last from the really big Lincolns of the 1970s, though Continental name applied to these four models (sedan, coupé, Town Car, Town Coupé) only for one year. Panther platform, shared with Ford LTD (1979–82) and Mercury Marquis (1979–82), which débuted a year earlier. Seemed small then (though interior room not that much different), acceptably big today. Renamed Lincoln Town Car for 1981, and Coupé dropped, and formed the mainstay of the Lincoln range for many years to come.
