Leyland P76.jpg

Leyland P76. 1973–4 (prod. 18,007). 4-door sedan. F/R, 2623 cm³ (I6 OHC), 4416 cm³ (V8 OHV). Very large Michelotti-styled sedan designed to fight Holden Belmont and Kingswood, and Ford Falcon, in Australian market, with little relation to other British Leyland models. Engines developed from 2·2-litre six in Austin Kimberley and ex-Buick Rover V8. Poor quality, but V8 model won the coveted Wheels Car of the Year award for 1973. Leyland’s troubles led to collapse of the company, and the P76 with it—Force 7 coupé and station wagon never realized, though prototypes produced. New Zealand assembly continued to 1976 with Australian-made kits.

Manufacturing location: Zetland, New South Wales, Australia

Marque: Leyland | Predecessors: Austin Tasman, Austin Kimberley
