2009 Lexus GS 350.jpg

Lexus (レクサス) GS (UZS190/GRS190/GRS191/GWS191). 2005–12 (prod. n/a). 4-door sedan. F/R, F/A, 2994 cm³, 3456 cm³ petrol, 3456 cm³ petrol–electric hybrid (V6 DOHC), 4292, 4608 cm³ (V8 DOHC). Finally called Lexus GS on the home market as well, as Toyota moved to bring its luxury marque to Japan. Yasuhide Hosoda-styled third-generation GS was far better resolved, and internationally appealing. Well appointed interior. New engines, other than the 4·3; 300 PS from 2GR-FSE 3·5. Hybrid model for the first time, GS 450h, with the 3·5 plus a hybrid system, developing 345 PS in total; the system would find its way on to the LS and Toyota Crown. Regular improvements, with refresh and eight-speed automatic from 2007; also 4·3 replaced with 4·6 (347 PS) that year. USB terminal for portable audio in 2009; hybrid gained its own grille. No complaints this time about power, very refined handling and ride, extremely quiet, and beautifully built. Arguably still pipped by the BMW 5er-Reihe (E60) by enthusiasts but far closer to the benchmark than its predecessors ever got.
