Lancia Beta Monte-Carlo (X1/20/Tipo 137). 1975–8 (prod. 2,080 coupé, 3,558 targa). 2-door coupé, 2-door targa. M/R, 1756, 1995 cm³ (I4 DOHC). Pretty Pininfarina-styled, developed and built coupé that began life as a Fiat, but wound up a Lancia given the cost to develop and build, and the need to command a higher selling price as a result. Aurelio Lampredi-designed engine from the Beta used, with twin camshafts and five-speed gearbox. Equipped with disc brakes and independent suspension. Exported as Beta Scorpion to the US with 1·8-litre four and round, partial pop-up headlights. Production suspended in 1978 to fix an issue with brakes locking up.
