Jeep Cherokee 2500.jpg

Jeep Cherokee (XJ/BJ2020/BJ2021/BJ2025/BJ6420/BJ6430/BJ7250). 1984–2006 (prod. n/a). 3- and 5-door SUV, 5-door LWB SUV. F/R, F/A, 2068 cm³ diesel (I4 OHC), 2464, 2744 cm³ petrol, 2499 cm³ diesel (I4 OHV), 2838 cm³ (V6 OHV), 3964 cm³ (I6 OHV). Smaller, more efficient Cherokee, developed by AMC and Renault, with styling under Richard Teague. Quadra-Link suspension limited rollovers, while drivetrain developed by François Castaing. Débuted 1983 for 1984 model year, with usual Jeep virtues of strength and off-road capability, but in a smaller, lighter package. Very long-lived SUV and the first AMC product to be made in China, initially from CKD kits (1985), but eventually completely built there. Actually counterfeited in China at non-Beijing Jeep factories, making it a more common sight at one point than legitimate sales’ figures suggested. Meant to have been replaced by Jeep Grand Cherokee (ZJ), but sales remained strong, and Chrysler (which owned the business by now) kept the original XJ going. Facelifted in US for 1997 model year. LWB in China from 1999. Facelifted Jeep 2500 and short-lived 2700 models, originally with Cherokee badge, in China from 2003 to the end of production in 2006, after which the model line was transferred from Beijing Jeep (later Beijing Benz) to Beijing Auto Works to become the Beijing Knight.

Marque: Jeep | Model: Jeep Cherokee | Predecessor: Jeep Cherokee (SJ) | Successors: Jeep Liberty (KJ), Beijing Knight
