JaguarSport, a joint venture between Jaguar and TWR, created the XJ-S-based XJR-S, a potent, hand-built version with more advanced specification. Originally with 5·3 (prod. 326), with first 100 ‘Celebration Le Mans’ cars commemorating Jaguar’s win at the race; during 1989, switched to a 6·0 with Zytec engine management system, with and extra compression and torque, delivered through an engine with forged steel crankshaft with a greater stroke and forged alloy pistons.
