1998 Opel Frontera 2·5 TDS.jpg

Isuzu Rodeo/Isuzu Wizard/Isuzu Cameo/Isuzu Vega/Vauxhall Frontera (UCS69W). 1989–98 (prod. n/a). 5-door SUV. F/R, F/A, 1998, 2255, 2559 cm³ petrol, 2260, 2771 cm³ diesel (I4 OHC), 1998, 2198, 2410 cm³ (I4 DOHC), 2499, 2999 cm³ diesel (I4 OHV), 3059 cm³ petrol, 3059 cm³ diesel (V6 OHV), 3165 cm³ (V6 OHC), 3165 cm³ (V6 DOHC). Originally launched in the US and built there, Rodeo was Isuzu’s entry in the growing sport-utility market. One of the pioneers in the sector, and the best seller among foreign marques there. Pick-up truck origins, and fared poorly in safety tests, but a surprisingly good ride for the segment as well as reasonable interior space for the time. Anti-lock brakes standard but only on the rear wheels, until ABS on all wheels became an option for the 1995 US model year, the year in which Rodeo gained a new dashboard, courtesy of Honda, which was selling it as the Passport. Japanese sales began in 1995 (as the Isuzu Wizard) as the SUV market in that country grew, and American-made Rodeos were initially brought in until domestic production commenced. Cameo and Vega were Thai names; the Rodeo was also made in Britain as the Vauxhall Frontera, exported as Opel.
