Isuzu Gemini (R-car/JT151/JT191/JT641). 1985–90 (prod. 748,216, incl. 16,263 for Holden, 1985–7). 3- and 4-door sedan. F/F, 1471, 1487, 1584 cm³ petrol, 1686 cm³ diesel (4 cyl. OHC), 1588 cm³ (4 cyl. DOHC). Switch to front-wheel drive and R-car platform sounded good in theory, but Gemini failed to make much of an impact in Japan or Australia (where it continued a long-running nameplate). In Australia, RB series flopped versus Ford Laser and Holden’s own Nissan Pulsar (N12)-based Astra, thanks to no hatchback being marketed. Well equipped. Styling by ItalDesign, but heavily modified by GM. Sold in the US as Chevrolet Spectrum, Geo Spectrum and Isuzu I-Mark; in Canada as Asuna Sunburst; in Chile as Chevrolet Gemini.

Manufacturing location: Japan

Marque: Isuzu | Model: Isuzu Gemini | Predecessor: Isuzu Gemini (1975–85), Holden Gemini (TG) | Successor: Isuzu Gemini (1990–3)
