From AutocadeHyundai Scoupe (SLC/E2/E3/UE). 1990–5 (prod. n/a). 2-door coupé. F/F, 1468, 1495 cm³ (I4 OHC). Hyundai enters the coupé market with an unusual name—a portmanteau of sports coupé—and a car based on the Excel. Shown at Tokyo 1989. Aerodynamic for the time, with Cd at 0,30, and a hit domestically with younger buyers. Lotus-tuned suspension. Mitsubishi Orion engine initially, but Hyundai Alpha engine from 1991, developing a healthier 102 PS (versus 97 PS). Scoupe Turbo with Garrett T-2 turbocharger from October 1991, taking output to 129 PS, though this engine, without an intercooler, suffered from overheating. Discs at front, drum brakes at rear. Facelift in June 1992, with revised dashboard inside. Convertible shown at New York 1993, but never reached mass production, with concerns over the chassis’ rigidity. Exported to some markets as S Coupé.
