1999 Hyundai Equus.jpg

Hyundai Equus (LZ). 1999–2008 (prod. n/a). 4-door sedan, 4-door LWB sedan. F/F, F/A, 2972, 3342, 3497, 3778 cm³ (V6 DOHC), 4498 cm³ (V8 DOHC). Co-developed with Mitsubishi (the last time technology was transferred from the Japanese firm), which had its versions as the Mitsubishi Proudia (S32A) and Mitsubishi Dignity (S43A). Exported as Hyundai Centennial. Originally developed as a Dynasty successor, but wound up positioned even further up the line. Mitsubishi engines at first (3·5 and 4·5), the latter being the largest engine on offer in Korea at the time; the larger GDI engine required high-octane petrol, rare in Korea, so a conventional multi-point injection system with less power was developed that could run on low-octane. Comfortable ride and quiet, but poor weight distribution with AWD model. Facelift in 2003. Lambda 3·8 added in 2005 and 3·0 deleted in 2005; 3·3 the following year.

Manufacturing location: Ulsan, Korea

Marque: Hyundai | Model: Hyundai Equus | Successor: Hyundai Equus (VI)
