Honda Civic/Honda Ballade (EG/EH/EJ). 1991–5 (prod. n/a). 3- and 4-door sedan, 2-door coupé. F/F, F/A, 1342, 1493, 1590, 1834 cm³ (I4 OHC), 1595 cm³ (I4 DOHC). ‘Sport Civic’ grew in all dimensions. Styling supposedly inspired by the Brazilian samba. Hatchback had sporty styling an unusual split tailgate, while four-door sedan, now called Civic Ferio, adopted a more substantial appearance. No wagon this time, but range joined by US-built two-door coupé from 1993. LSD, ABS, traction control available; SiR and SiR II featured DOHC VTEC engine. Very economical: ADAC tested one Civic, achieving 4·97 ℓ/100 km. Four-wheel double-wishbone suspension—best handling and riding Civic up to that point. Still badged Ballade in South Africa, with sole four-door body style. Japanese market had a limited-edition 20th anniversary Si model.
