Smaller-than-Civic hatchback from Honda, launched in 1981 with a compact, tall look—a trend that was emerging in city car design. With Opel having the City trade mark in Europe, called Jazz there. Wilder versions were launched and the City was considered particularly chic in the 1980s. The second generation went low and sporting, while the third generation was a Civic-based four-door sedan that had little to do with the clever original. Since then, the City has followed a similar formula: a compact four-door sedan, seen as an aspirational, high-quality model in south and southeast Asia.
