From AutocadeHolden Statesman (HJ). 1974–6 (prod. 167,251 all HJ). 4-door sedan. F/R, 5047 cm³ (V8 OHV). Squared-off, more formal looks for top Holden, exported CKD to South Africa as the AJ-series Chevrolet Caprice Classic, parallel to the new flagship, the Statesman Caprice. Custom had been deleted, so Statesman de Ville became the “base” model. Cadillac-style grille, new rear lights, air conditioning, leather seats, power windows and electric locking. Kits for Chevrolet Caprice Classic lasted well into 1979 in South Africa, so this model was still emerging from that country three years after Australian production had switched to the HX.
