Holden Monaro (HK).jpg

Holden Monaro (HK). 1968–9 (prod. n/a). 2-door coupé. F/R, 161, 186 in³ (I6 OHV), 307, 327 in³ (V8 OHV). Although the HK sedan and wagon design left something to be desired after last-minute changes to dimensions, Monaro’s lines worked with the longer platform. Pillarless hardtop style (supposedly inspired by Oldsmobile Toronado (1966–70)) quite attractive, adding glamour to Australian motoring and restarting a market niche there. Highly successful in competition, winning first, second and third at Mt Panorama in 1968, cementing the Monaro’s legendary status in Australia.

Manufacturing locations: Brisbane, Queensland, Australia; Perth, Western Australia, Australia; Melbourne, Victoria, Australia; Adelaide, South Australia, Australia; Sydney, New South Wales, Australia

Marque: Holden | Model: Holden Monaro | Successor: Holden Monaro (HT)
