Holden Commodore SL (VK).jpg

Holden Commodore (VK). 1984–6 (prod. 135,705, incl. HDT and Calais). 4-door sedan, 5-door wagon. F/R, 1892 cm³ (4 cyl. OHV), 3298 cm³ (6 cyl. OHV), 4987, 5044 cm³ (V8 OHV). With Ford’s Falcon rising in sales, Holden responded by restyling the Commodore to make it appear larger, adding fuel injection option on six, delivering a good power boost (86 to 106 kW). No four-cylinder model domestically, though still offered for export; 2·8-litre six and 4·2-litre V8 deleted. Six-light body similar to Opel Senator; wagon less changed. Three-slat front grille more contemporary, with badging location different depending on trim level. L became SL; SL became Berlina, the first time this model variant appeared. SL/E spun off into new model line, Calais, replacing Statesman’s old position. Competition victory at Bathurst for 1984. New V8 from June 1985.

Manufacturing location: Australia

Marque: Holden | Model: Holden Commodore | Predecessor: Holden Commodore (VH) | Successor: Holden Commodore (VL)
