Holden Commodore spin-off, launched soon after the luxury Statesman line came to a close in the 1980s. Calais was meant to be seen as separate to the Commodore on which it was based, and even donned a separate grille with pop-up headlights with the VL series in 1986. Usually, however, equipment and trim aside, there was little to distinguish Calais from the lesser model. VF was officially Commodore Calais.
