Holden Belmont (HQ).jpg

Holden Belmont (HQ). 1971–4 (prod. 485,650 all HQ). 4-door sedan, 5-door wagon, 2-door panel van. F/R, 179, 202 in³ (I6 OHV), 253, 307 in³ (V8 OHV). Svelte Holden for the 1970s, though it handled like a pig thanks to new American-installed boss, George Roberts, who insisted the car feel like a Cadillac. Car was prone to understeer. Ride was good, however. Engines were a 179 in³ (HQ series) or 202 in³ (sedan only in 1973; not available for the sedan or wagon in 1974). Vans were still offered with the base and the more powerful engines. Record exports for Holden in 1973. Sandman panel van from January 1974. Related to base Chevrolet Kommando (AQ) in South Africa.

Manufacturing location: Australia

Marque: Holden | Model: Holden Belmont | Predecessor: Holden Belmont (HG) | Successor: Holden Belmont (HJ)

q.v. Holden Kingswood (HQ), Holden Premier (HQ), Holden Statesman (HQ)
