From AutocadeHindustan Contessa. 1984–2005 (prod. unknown). 4-door saloon. F/R, 1817 cm³ (4 cyl. OHV), 1995 cm³ diesel (4 cyl. OHC). Hindustan decided to follow a model it had done before: buy the tooling of an old English car and adapt it to India. But rather than a (then-) recently deleted Morris Oxford, it reached back two decades to the Vauxhall Victor (FE), mating it to Isuzu engines. Considered luxurious when India had its market very closed to imports, but outdated by the turn of the century when the Japanese entered. Never as successful as Hindustan Ambassador, with production running at a fraction of the older car’s. Series production ended in the early 2000s, though car still produced on demand afterward.
Marque: Hindustan
