1970 Ford XL.jpg

Ford XL. 1969–70 (prod. 95,558 approx.). 2-door fastback coupé, 2-door convertible. F/R, 302, 351, 390, 429 in³ (V8 OHV). Ford’s full-size cars were redesigned for 1969, with an extra 2 in in the wheelbase (to 121 in). Overall length increased from 213·3 in to 216·9 in, with weight up 200 lb on average. No longer that distinctive, as even Galaxie 500 two-door could be had with the bucket-and-console option. GT Performance Group option only for 1969. “Flying buttress” styling for Sportsroof at rear, though Galaxie had that style, too. Sales dropped for 1970, as buyers preferred pony cars and more powerful intermediates, and the full-size two-door performance Ford was history.

Manufacturing location: USA

Marque: Ford | Model: Ford XL | Predecessor: Ford XL (1967–8)
