1974 Ford Thunderbird.jpg

Ford Thunderbird. 1972–6 (prod. 299,146). 2-door coupé. F/R, 429, 460 in³ (V8 OHV). Biggest ’Bird of them all (120·4 in wheelbase, over 5,000 lb in “road-hugging” weight), related to Lincoln Continental Mark IV (1972–6), and quite ill-timed considering the fuel crisis hit in the middle of its run. Slightly more rear space, but mpg for smaller V8 dropping into the single digits. Floaty ride, above-average performance, and average reliability.

Manufacturing location: Wixom, Michigan, USA

Marque: Ford | Model: Ford Thunderbird | Predecessor: Ford Thunderbird (1970–1) | Successor: Ford Thunderbird (1977–9)
