Ford Telstar TX5.jpg

Ford Telstar (GE/AX/AY). 1991–7 (prod. n/a). F/F, F/A, 1840, 1991 cm³ (I4 DOHC), 2497 cm³ (V6 DOHC). Twins of the Mazda Cronos (sedan) and Efini MS-6 (TX5)—Mk III for want of a better term—with relatively few changes from original Japanese model. A bread-and-butter bubble with typical rounded styling of the late 1980s–early 1990s. Now wider than 1,700 mm, meaning a higher tax bracket in Japan. Telstar II launched in Japan in 1994 (at 1,700 mm width) and overlapped standard GE run. GE built also in South Africa by Samcor, 2·0 and 2·5 only.

Manufacturing locations: Hiroshima, Japan; Pretoria, South Africa

Marque: Ford | Model: Ford Telstar | Predecessors: Ford Telstar (GD), Ford Corsair (1989–92) | Successors: Ford Telstar II, Ford Mondeo Mk II
