2001 Ford Taurus.jpg

Ford Taurus (D186). 2000–7 (prod. n/a). 4-door sedan, 5-door wagon. F/F, 2985 cm³ (V6 OHV), 2966 cm³ (V6 DOHC). Attempt to fix styling deficiencies of old model without platform or door changes. Some commentators claimed there were Jaguar influences to exterior design. Safety emphasized, with car getting five stars from NHTSA. No SHO sports sedan. New interior, though retaining ideas such as integrated control panel from 1996 generation. Minor facelift 2004, but not enough to stop sales’ decline for what was a very old car compared to Accord and Camry; even Chevrolet Impala a better performer these years. Handling improved though not class-leading. Wagon deleted after 2005 model year (production ceased January ’05); 2007s sold only to fleets.
