Ford Probe Mk II.jpg

Ford Probe (ST44). 1993–7 (prod. unknown). 3-door coupé. F/F, 1991 cm³ (4 cyl. DOHC), 2497 cm³ (V6 DOHC). Mazda Capella (GE)-based sports car, identical to MX-6 coupé under the svelte skin, styled by Mimi Vandermolen. Similar ideas to before, but with new V6. Four-inch-longer wheelbase, but similar cabin room. Intended for US, though wound up being exported to Europe to belatedly fill Capri’s void—it didn’t work. GT was fine for its purpose, with excellent acceleration and ride, but base models were lacking. With new Mustang coming on stream, Probe’s sales suffered, and it was deleted after the 1997 model year.

Manufacturing location: Flat Rock, Michigan, USA

Marque: Ford | Model: Ford Probe | Predecessor: Ford Probe Mk I | Successor: Mercury Cougar (1999–2002)
