Ford Probe Mk I.jpg

Ford Probe (SN8/ST16). 1989–92 (prod. 837,273 sold incl. Mk II). 3-door coupé. F/F, 2184 cm³ (I4 OHC), 2987 cm³ (V6 OHV). Three-door coupé originally developed as a Mustang III, till purists complained about its Japanese platform, shared with Mazda Capella (GD). Styling by Toshi Saito, in a team with Barry Johnson. Aerodynamic, with base models coming at Cd 0,308. Name taken from a series of futuristic Ford concept cars. Built alongside Mazda MX-6 at Flat Rock. V6, more refined than even turbocharged four, from 1990. Standard four felt underpowered; less-than-reliable turbo four had torque steer.

Manufacturing location: Flat Rock, Michigan, USA

Marque: Ford | Model: Ford Probe | Predecessor: Ford Escort EXP | Successor: Ford Probe Mk II
